Regarding the rumor that Superman vs Batman will portray Wonder Woman's Amazons as descendants of ancient Kryptonians… On the surface I can see the appeal, and I’m sure it seems to Warner Brothers execs not too different from the way the Marvel films have portrayed the Asgardians as super-advanced aliens that were WORSHIPED as gods, but stops short of having them be the actual deities of the Norse pantheon. Why introduce the Greek Gods into your cinematic superhero universe if you can instead just fold the Amazons into your existing concept? It ties Wonder Woman to your existing big conceit of aliens from Krypton, who were already shown to have visited Earth thousands of years ago. It creates connective tissue between Wonder Woman and Superman to build your story around to bring Wonder Woman into the movie. Simple! Elegant! Clever, even! But here’s the problem. It not only robs Wonder Woman of her own mythology, but makes her story derivative of Superman’s mythology. Doing that LESSENS the character. It makes her a Superman spin-off, with only her name and costume preserving her status as her own woman rather than being a glorified Supergirl. This is ONLY a rumor based on one source’s speculation based on a limited amount of insider-info, so take it with a grain of salt. But I *hope* it’s not true. Wonder Woman deserves better.
